Our society for the prevention of cruelty to animals called „Hilfe für Fuerte-Hunde e.V. “, focuses mainly on the dogs from the south of Fuerteventura.

This perfect holiday area attracts many tourists from all over the world, but for some of the animals, there is a darker side to this beautiful island that is often not seen. You may think there are no abandoned dogs in the area, but many dogs are regularly picked up by the dog-catcher and placed in the council pounds called „Perreras“. Only a small number of them will find a new home and when the capacities of the „Perreras“ are exhausted, the dogs will normally be euthanized.

We have dedicated people on Fuerteventura whose aim it is to responsibly rescue and accommodate as many dogs as possible. These dogs are examinated by a vet and given any medical treatment they require. They are then cared for, until we can find a new home for them.

Our team all work voluntarily.
